The solitary and lonely Wellingtonia on the Plain in Wanstead Park, just south of the Temple. Inappropriately planted and - although fairly healthy - not thriving, possibly because of the poor soil.

This tree was planted to commemorate the death of Winston Churchill in 1965.

Giant Redwoods are some of the most massive trees in the world. Although not potentially growing quite as tall as their coastal cousins - the Coast Redwoods - they have claim to being the biggest of trees. They are native to the slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California, and often do very well in the British climate.
