This Mock Orange shrub near the Grotto was a substantial plant - almost a small tree - and its blossom could be smelled from across the Ornamental Waters.

However in a "tidying-up" operation on 27 June 2002, together with the vegetation around it was cut right to the ground, leaving just visible a stump about 15cm in diameter. The rank vegetation of course recovered quickly, but it wasn't until May 2006 that the mock orange was once again in flower.

The plant suffered again in later years, particularly relating to renovation work on the nearby grotto, and is no longer present.
