This tree is tagged number 1934 and listed as simply as Common Beech in the cemetery database, but appears to be the form 'Asplenifolia'. It is a shame that there is some untidiness around this Fern-leaved Beech, as it really is a fine tree. Not sure what is causing the browning of the foliage on the right-hand side, though. This specimen is near the south boundary of the cemetery, not far from the railway lines.

The Cut-leaved or Fern-leaved Beech - as form 'Heterophylla' - was introduced into Europe in 1820. (Mitchell 1974).
