The Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica), otherwise known as the Japanese Medlar, was introduced from China in 1787.

Preferring milder climates, nevertheless it can do well in small gardens, as here in the newer part of the Aldersbrook Estate. This specimen has since been removed.
